Description
Hakgala Botanical Garden is the second-largest garden in Sri Lanka. The garden is contiguous to Hakgala Strict Nature Reserve. Hakgala Botanical Garden is situated on the Nuwara Eliya-Badulla main road, 16 km from Nuwara Eliya. The garden has a cool temperate climate because of altitude is 5,400 feet above the sea level. The mean annual temperature ranges between 16 °C to 30 °C during the course of a year. There are over 10,000 species of flora planted here and during the Spring season in Nuwara Eliya thousands of visitors come to see the blooms here. The garden is famous for the number of species of Orchids and Roses are planted there. The garden was established in 1861, under George Henry Kendrick Thwaites as an experimental cultivation of Cinchona, a commercial crop thriving at the time. Once after the Tea replaced the Cinchona, it was turned into experimental Tea cultivation. In 1884 it transformed into a garden.

Nice place to calm the mind and feed the soul, a vast area of nature. Great collection of flora and fona.. Nature lovers, you'll like this for sure..You have to go to the entrance passing the exit and come back by foot to the entrance if you parked there.Parking - Rs.100/=Entrance - Rs. 100/= Each

Went there 2021.10. During lockdown. Cant believe my eyes they had minimum number of visitors and flowers bloomed everywhere. Recommend to travel in November

Giovanni’s, simply the best pizza place in town. They have a great amount of varieties which makes them so special. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Keep up the good work.

Beautiful place to visit with family. Huge parking space available for visitors. 100.00LKR Per hour for the parking.You can see beautiful flowers and some landscaping here.Best place for couples and families

Many flower variations to see. Park is huge and recommend for whole day to observe. There was sub parks also can visit. Shop is available on site which can purchase various plantations is reasonable price.

This is the second largest botanical gardens in Sri Lanka. Need a long walk under high canopies of huge trees and across beautifully bloomed flower gardens. However, it fully worth of spending even the whole day there.If walking is difficult you can hire a touring buggy and cover most parts of the garden in a few hours.There is a shop within the premises where you can buy a large variety of ornamental plants in extremely cheaper prices.All facilities have been provided (clean washrooms and a canteen ect..) within the garden. Parking at the entrance or at the exit gate.

If you visit NuwaraEliya, This is a important place to visit. Nice beautiful garden. You can see lot of varieties of flowers in here.

Great garden to explore ...blooming flowers,misty freezing atmosphere a good place to be..you can hire a cart that take you up on a trail that usual visitors do not hike.

Natural beauty cannot be represented as more creatively. This place was one of the best botanical gardens on my travel map. Not too sophisticated but it gets the job done. Great place to relax and ponder. I’m speechless

Garden is very nice. But front counter security staff is rude. It requires about 1 day to completely see the garden.

Great place to visit anytime just before 5pmYou can bring your cake or fruits and drinks to enjoy somewhere in the garden but remember to clean and bring the “un-friendly” materials with you to homeOne last thing don’t forget to dress your greatest clothes because every corners of this garden are ideally for you to shot pictures

Good and calm place to visit but less varieties of plants with different designs of plots. That will not highlight easily unless you take pictures and compare.

Less crowded bank.It offers all services of commercial banks except the ATM facility. This place has a very friendly staff and offers services in very less time. Parking is limited.

Hotel is placed in a nice location. Highly recommended for stay in family. Good hospitality and best service. Taste foods. Rooms and swimming pool are clean. Friendly service. We stayed their two nights.

You don't have the western menu in this outlet, no parking space, have to park on the side of the road. The gents washroom was not clean. The food is the same quality as the other outlets. Only plus point is that it's not usually crowded.Ps: the staff is friendly

Quite large garden with a nice variety of plants.I personally don't like that most paths are concrete and you can even rent a golf cart to drive around.Also the entry fee for foreigners is quite high, but since this might help locals to afford the visit I'm totally fine with that.
