Description
Laxapana Falls is 126 m (413 ft) high and the 8th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka and 625th highest waterfall in the world. It is situated in Maskeliya area in Nuwara Eliya District, about 16 km (9.9 mi) from Maskeliya town on Maskeliya-Norton Bridge road, in a village called Kiriwan Eliya. It is formed by Maskeliya Oya near the confluence of Kehelgamu Oya and Maskeliya Oya which forms Kelani River. The falls gives its name to twin hydroelectric power stations, Old Laxapana Power Station which generates 50 MW of electricity and New Laxapana Power Station which generates 100 MW.
Popular folklore tells this the place where Buddha mended his saffron robe when he was visiting Sri Pada. The name of the Falls derived from Sinhala words of "Laxa" means Hundred thousand and "Pahana" or "Pashana" means rock.

It's not big water fall but it's beautiful and there are local people living near by that waterfall and if you love the nature . Just visit this place and enjoy the nature

Great place to be, rough road to travel. Suits 4×4 vehicle. Else u can take a tuk tuk from there. About and half a kilometer steep walk to the fall. Will be and good healthy walk to the body.

Beautiful water fall. about 1km far from the main road providing access by stairs, upper of the fall also accessible with a distance about 300m from main road.

We had te opportunity to visit the fall and enjoyed the view. It's about 30 minutes from Hatton city. Laxapana is a tall waterfall and we manage to capture the pictures ...Great place to stay for the night camping

Nice food. Great customer service and the area is so great to hangout. Awesome things to do and you cannot avoid taking snaps there :) The traditional masks idea is so amazing. Washrooms are clean and fresh.Satisfied.

Amazing place in Near to maskeliya, nuwara eliya. This waterfall is flowing to Maussakele tank. So delicious place.

Indeed its a spectacular place but definitely not a safe place to enjoy. We went there this Sunday morning about 8.00 am its a bit gloomy day we went to the bottom and then went to the top of the falls. There were no notice at all telling that the dam will be open on the particular day so we actually enjoyed the place without any fear. But suddenly water became unclear and water level was raised. We only could grab few of our belonging and climb along the forest edge. we lost many goods of ours in waters but luckily all 6 of us got into safety. we might be lucky to save our lives there but its really not a safe place to freely roam around.

Amazing place to enjoy and photography. Roads are constructing nowadays from junction of the main road, after that anyone can easily get there. Beautiful scenary of Srilanka. You should feel it. And watch yourself.

Wonderful place for an outing, You gotta get down around 500-700 M from main road by steps all the way down to the point. There is a room located on ridge of a rock for tourist for a couple charging around $11 per night. The point is that, you can see the watera falls right up the view. Climbing rocks and follow foot path on right side valley to reach caved shape rock with fire pit for BBQ nights but little risky that place is cautious for wild animals easily access to it. There is a big natural pool connecting to waterfalls to have chill swimming experience and lay down for a sun bath on a rock.

Beautiful waterfall with most of all the best views!First you reach a little sign where you can descent some steps to reach the top of the waterfall and enjoy the wonderful view. (This is the Google maps location)If you drive a little further you'll reach 'Fallside Rest', a nice little shop/restaurant where you can order food for when you come back from the fall. You take the path to the right of the shop and quite a lot of steps take you to the bottom of the waterfall. Here you can swim if you'd like (although there are warning signs that no warning is given if they'd open the dam).
