AIDA Gems & Jewellery was originally established in Bentota in 1975 under the personal direction of master goldsmith “Aida” (Nissanka Weerasena). Aida takes a personal interest in every creation, dedicating his skill and knowledge to giving every customer complete satisfaction.

AIDA’s small roadside workshop has grown into a flourishing family business with an extensive jewellery manufacturing workshop, Gem museum and showroom in Bentota and opening of branches in Galle, Waskaduwa (Kalutara) and Marawila (Colombo North) with over 100 employees. A gemstone in its raw state seems like a pretty piece of rock or pebble to the uninitiated. Only expert dealers like AIDA know the potential of every piece. The cutting by trained craftsmen reveals its beauty.

In the workshop at AIDA Gems & Jewellery the hand – operated grinders of the old days have been replaced by modern machinery. The technique known as Diamond Cut is used for most gemstones to bring out their beauty, while Cabochon Cut is considered best for harder stones as it reveals their sparkle.Polishing adds the refinement and is done by experts here in AIDA using modern machinery.
