Hawagala is a picturesque mountain situated close to Belihuloya. It is surrounded by popular landmarks of the area including Adara Kanda, NonPareil Estate and Hortain Plains. Hiking Hawagala gives amazing views of the lush greenery of the Sabaragamuwa province. The hike to Hawagala is quite a difficult one but the view at the summit is so amazing that it is worth the climb. Locals and foreigners are both attracted to the surrounding paddy fields, forest, mountain and the beautiful waterfall in this area and is a reason for it to become a tourist hot spot in the Sabaragamuwa province.
Very free environment. As well as your freedom, always be mindful of minimizing the damage you do to the environment. Dispose of garbage properly without littering.
Nice place. Located in the dry zone. No rain had been there for quite a some time when we went there in October. Great view. May take up to 2 hours for the club to reach to top. Better go with a guide
You can see a beautiful view of the whole area from the top of the tower. But the tower was not clean. I think it is not maintained well. And it was really crowded.
Hawagala is a nice place for camping. Famous tracking route near Sabaragamuwa university. it takes 3 to 4 hrs to reach from nearest village. you can see pahanthudawa waterfall on the way to village.
The view is absolutely mind blowing! The food is delicious and worth the money. And the price is also reasonable. Also the ice cream is great and it’s a must try. Good service and friendly staff. I’d surely visit again.
Hawagala is a massive upthrust of earth and stone , somewhat jutting out in peculiar way – almost a sheer stone cuboid half submerged, leaning on to one corner. This in turn allows it’s unique profile – seen from far away , especially coming from Haputale , to seem as if has a gentle winding slope , and on rainy days the water streams stemming from the top reflect the sunlight , making the rock seem like a gold vein infused behemoth.
