The location, Belihuloya, is famous for its pleasant weather and scenic environment. It is situated in the intermediate climatic zone, where the annual average temperature ranges from Max 27 0 c to Min 15 0 c. The property is situated overlooking “Samanala Wewa” reservoir where there is a strong gust of wind during good six months (May to Oct) of the year. The bungalow will be surrounded by trees with mountains in the distance. The whole atmosphere will provide a tranquilizing environment providing a perfect hideout from the busy city life. The location can be reached within 3 & 1/2 hours from key cities, like Colombo, Galle, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, etc. With the proposed Colombo, Pelmadulla highway, the time could be reduced even further in time to come.
There are number of other attractions on site and around the location to keep all family members intrigued. Nature trails in the 2 acre garden will provide an opportunity to see numerous plants which are used in Ayurveda medicine and about 8 varieties of orchids native to Sri Lanka. According to a study conducted by Sabaragamuwa University in the Belihuloya area, they identified about 56 species out of 240 breeding resident birds in the area, out of which 15 are endemic birds, giving a very high chance of siting such birds on the site.
If interested, one could walk to the Farm of Sabaragamuwa University that is situated in walking distance and see the farm animals. The site where the first ever wind-powered furnace used for making “Balangoda Steel” is situated in walking distance from Windy Hills Bungalow. Other than that, few attractions like Bambarakanda Falls, Sri Lanka’s tallest (790 ft) and worlds 299 th tallest, Surathali Ella, Samana Wewa, Belihuloya, Haldummulla ancient Portuguese Fort, ancient Soragune Devalaya, oldest and first ancient human dwelling to be found in the central hills in Sri Lanka, famous Adisham Bangalow and Udawalawa National Park Rajawaka entrance can also be reached within reasonable timeframe. For more adventures tourist, mountain hiking and biking options could be arranged on request.
Windy Hills Bungalow, designed by the well-known architect Ajith Gunathilaka, has two spacious rooms, where each has two very comfortable beds. The main attraction in the bedrooms are the “decks” designed in the rooms, where comfortable sleeping arrangements are made. Kids tend to love sleeping on the deck where they can see the surrounding from an elevation. The bungalow has a spacious living & dining area and a verandah overlooking Samanala Wewa.
The guests could decide their own meal plan, and will provide opportunity for them to enjoy our traditional meals prepared according to their taste. The visitors could get healthy organic foods, like “Kola Kenda”, “Jack Fruit”, “Manioc Curry”, “Fresh fish from Samanala Wewa,” etc., which will prepared according to traditional village style.
