Description
St. Claire falls most conveniently seen by the travelers on Hatton – Talawakelle Road, the twin waterfalls of St.Clairs cascades over three rock outcrops into a massive pool. The beautiful and most popular fall, located among tea gardens, carries a large volume of water, and is the widest waterfall in the country. The fall is situated over 500 m. away from the road, and one needs to walk down among the tea bushes at a steep gradient in order to reach it.
Located on the Kotmale Oya, this fall will be affected by the proposed Upper Kotmale Hydro Power Project, but for the benefit of the public a limited quantity of water will be released to prevent complete disappearance of the fall.
Downstream to the main fall is a second waterfall of 50 m in height called Kuda Ella, which is best visible at the curve near 90 km post. At this point, though far, complete fall of St. Clairs is visible including the last section that was partly hidden.
The main fall is located 3 km from Talawakele.

Please do not follow this map. The location shown here is not of the viewing gallery but of the internal route through... a village. In Jan 2020, my wife and I first went to the viewing gallery(different location) and got a good view after climbing down the stairs next to it. After that we caught this location on the map and followed it. It led us to the end of a road inside a small village. The last part where you see the dotted lines is a part where we had to stop our bike and walk into the mountainous area with still tall grass on either side. As we walked towards the falls in this lonely area, we heard 3-4 loud snarls and the grass suddenly shook in between. Gripping our hearts in it's right place, we calmly tried to walk back to our bike. Once we caught our breath, we asked a lady who in broken Tamil said there are leopards and snakes here. We later got back and found a local newspaper and read about the mountain leopards that were recently seen and hence locals stopped farming for a while. Please avoid this map listing. Absolutely gorgeous waterfall, we were nit able to reach more closer, but the view point was totally perfect for us.... Not many people and comfortable to make great photos. Sri Lanka is so special, we loved it.read more

Right near beach. Pool area was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful. Our room had an amazing view, there was... lots of different accomodation at different price points to suit every budget. The breakfast was great 👍Value for money.friendly dedicated staff good location but sea is rough in the area. facilities are good.well cleaned swimming poolperfect location.read more

One of the best sights in Central hills of Sri Lanka. You can view from the main road itself. There is a viewing... gallery. Amazing spot to take photographs and have a break while driving to Nuwara eliyaread more

One of the most pictures waterfalls of sri lanka. Unfortunately with less water compared to past due to ihala kothmale... hydropower project. It can be seen well from the view point by the side of hatton nuwaraeliya road. But you can go closer, there is a small road about 1km towards hattom ffram the view point down towards waterfall. (Same road to the waterfall villas). Narrow road but in good condition. You have to park your vehicle in front of the tea factory and then there is a 1km walk to the waterfall.read more
