Set amidst 30 acres of coconut and bordering a paddy field and lotus lake lies a colonial bungalow called 'Bungalow Berrycove' in a remote village called Wellawa in the outskirts of a once glorious kingdom of Kurunegala. The name Berrycove is it's original name which was given to this property by it's first traceable British owners at the time of colonial rule. Today, the current local owners have cautiously yet perfectly redone this bungalow to give the discerning guest a perfect balance of old world charm and modern luxuries.
The huge open veranda with cool cement tiles and the crisp white high rafter ceiling allows for a perfect resting place or cosy chat with family and friends. The turquoise blue swimming pool lies a few feet away from the veranda and calls out for a refreshing plunge. The dining room which sits in the center of the bungalow sets the mood for a good village style meal and exciting dinner conversation with it's airy windows and old style credenza. The rear part of the bungalow takes you through an airy passage looking out to a graveled court yard and towards the endless green estate waiting to be explored. This sprawling backyard of the bungalow is truly inviting to take a stroll and center yourself.
The working kitchen sits at the very end armed with it's village condiments, utensils and a few modern 'must have' amenities to turn out the perfect Sri Lankan village cuisine which are selected from the Berrycove menus. As you sip a drink by the pool on a starry night or unwind in an arm chair biting a spicy "wade" in the sprawling veranda or simply get lost in a distant lantern a glow in the dark wilderness, the stillness of this rural village calm will truly rejuvenate you in this cosy serene retreat.
